BOURRÉE GANNATOISE
At the gateway to the Occitan region, Gannat is a land of transition between the Pays d’Oil to the north and the Pays d’Oc to the south. Founded in 1965 by Jean Roche, a friend from Freiburg, La Bourrée Gannatoise perpetuates the popular traditions of the Auvergne and Bourbonnais regions. The ensemble offers an innovative artistic program that respects the essence of its heritage. The violin, diatonic accordion and bagpipes are an integral part of Auvergne folklore, and the hurdy-gurdy is the region’s emblem.
There is still a luthier in Jenzat who makes this prestigious instrument. The variety of the ensemble is reflected in the famous bourrée, the emblematic dance of central France. Based on ethnographic sources, the group plays an active role in the protection and promotion of intangible heritage.
