The Kolkha ensemble comes to us from the University of Koutaïssi, Georgia. Situated on the edge of the Caucasus and bordering the Black Sea, Georgia is a lush country of the former Soviet Union, where palm trees, vines and fruit trees grow in the open.

Now an independent state, Georgia has nevertheless experienced considerable turbulence in recent years. Its history and past bear witness to its deep attachment to autonomy and national identity.

Heroic values such as courage, nobility, chivalry and triumph are central to Georgian culture. Traditional Kolkha dances are a powerful reflection of this.
