After five years of negotiations, we are delighted to welcome Cuba to Fribourg. The country’s highly complex situation makes Camagua’s visit to Europe all the more exceptional. Hailing from Camagüey, in the east of the island, this professional group offers a veritable voyage into its Caribbean roots.

Through a series of tableaux, the ballet showcases ancient popular expressions, imbued with Jamaican, Haitian and Spanish influences. Salsa, rumba, son cubano, bolero, changüí, mambo or danzón, dance and music are deeply rooted in Cuban identity.

Driven by a constant capacity for wonder, Cuba has preserved the unique charm of its Afro-Latin heritage, and its ballroom dances have conquered the world.
