For 50 years, we’ve been weaving connections.
From August 16 to 24, 2025, the oldest event in the city of Fribourg — entirely run by volunteers — will celebrate its 50th anniversary. Since 1975, the Rencontres de Folklore Internationales (RFI) have been showcasing traditional cultures from around the world through dance and music. Over half a century, more than 13,500 faces from all corners of the globe have left their mark on Fribourg.
The name Rencontres speaks for itself: encounters that create bonds, adventures, friendships… and even love stories.
Bringing together tradition bearers passionate about sharing their heritage, volunteers driven by a love for folklore, and an audience seeking beauty, intensity, and authenticity — that is the spirit of the RFI.
Popular and accessible, the festival has remained true to its roots. Today, it proudly relies on a young and dedicated team, ensuring a bright future. A city in celebration, heartfelt emotions, and unforgettable memories… for 50 years, the magic of the RFI has been alive.
Let’s celebrate this jubilee together! After a successful debut with the RFI Kids from June 12 to 15, 2025, the traditional August festival returns, enriched with new features and highlights. More than 320 international artists and 150 local performers will gather in Fribourg for the festivities.
Eleven groups: beloved classics, long-time friends, rare and exceptional appearances — for an intense present to be savored.
